TAORMINA: A wonderful old town on the coast of Sicily
Taormina is a very worth seeing city, situated on a hill, which offers many historical monuments as well as a magnificent view of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna. In the old town you can find most of the sights and the most beautiful viewpoints along Corso Umberto. Due to the picturesque landscape, mild climate and numerous historical sights, the city developed into one of the most important tourist centers in Sicily in the 19th and 20th centuries.
I only had about half a day to capture with my camera the many sights and the atmosphere that was unique to me. Among other things, I was thrilled by the great views, the old town and the many palaces, decorated with Arabic style elements. The visit to the Greek theater is the highlight of my video. It is the second largest ancient theater in Sicily, built in the 3rd century BC.
Taormina was defined by Goethe “The greatest masterpiece of art and nature”, and the historical French travel writer Guy de Maupassant called the city a “painting in which we find everything that seems to exist on earth to seduce the eyes, mind and imagination”. Taormina ist eine sehr sehenswerte, auf einem Hügel gelegene Stadt, die viele historische Bauwerke sowie eine herrliche Aussicht auf das Ionische Meer und den Berg Ätna zu bieten hat. In der Altstadt befinden sich die meisten Sehenswürdigkeiten und die schönsten Aussichtsplätze entlang des Corso Umberto. Aufgrund der malerischen Landschaft, des milden Klimas und der zahlreichen historischen Sehenswürdigkeiten entwickelte sich die Stadt im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert zu einem der wichtigsten Touristenzentren Siziliens.
Ich hatte nur etwa einen halben Tag Zeit, um mit meiner Kamera die vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten und die für mich einzigartige Atmosphäre einzufangen. Unter anderem haben mich die tolle Aussicht, die Altstadt und die vielen Paläste, verziert mit arabischen Stilelementen, begeistert. Der Besuch des griechischen Theaters bildet den Höhepunkt meines Videos. Es ist das zweitgrößte antike Theater Siziliens, das im 3. Jahrhundert v. Chr. erbaut wurde.
Taormina wurde definiert von Goethe „Das größte Meisterwerk der Kunst und Natur“, und der historische französische Reisereporter Guy de Maupassant nannte die Stadt ein “Gemälde, in dem wir alles finden, was auf der Erde zu existieren scheint, um Augen, Geist und Vorstellungskraft zu verführen”.
