The fascination of a “LOST PLACE” in a beautiful landscape in Austria!
Plaster crumbles from the façade, rain splashes through the large holes in the roof. A run-down abandoned house for some. A mysterious property that wants to be discovered, for others. It is the traces of decay that create a unique magic. It is simply fascinating to see how nature slowly recovers what man has built.
Actually, when I visited my parents in Austria, I had no intention of filming a Lost Place. It spontaneously happened that I was allowed to film here. Of course I took the opportunity to unpack my camera right away.
The place was fascinating and full of contrasts. While the property is very well maintained and the lawn is freshly mowed, the house and the smaller outbuildings are in ruins. And with the beautiful landscape of Carinthia, this place seemed almost a little unreal to me. Of course I was not allowed to enter the building – which was better, because the building looked very much in danger of collapsing. So I tried to capture the scenery from the outside.

Putz bröckelt von der Fassade, der Regen plätschert durch die großen Löcher im Dach. Ein heruntergekommenes verlassenes Haus für die Einen. Ein geheimnisvolles Anwesen, das entdeckt werden will, für die anderen. Es sind Spuren des Verfalls, die einen einzigartigen Zauber entfalten. Zu sehen, wie die Natur langsam zurückerobert, was der Mensch gebaut hat, ist einfach faszinierend.
Eigentlich hatte ich gar nicht vor, einen Lost Place zu filmen, als ich meine Eltern in Österreich besuchte. Es hat sich spontan ergeben, dass ich hier filmen durfte. Natürlich habe ich die Gelegenheit gleich genutzt und meine Kamera ausgepackt.
Der Ort war faszinierend und voller Gegensätze. Während das Grundstück sehr gepflegt ist und der Rasen frisch gemäht ist, verfallen das Wohnhaus und die kleineren Nebengebäude. Und vor der wunderschönen Kulisse Kärntens wirkte das ganze fast ein wenig unwirklich auf mich. Das Gebäude betreten durfte ich natürlich nicht – was aber auch besser so war, denn das Gebäude sah schon sehr einsturzgefährdet aus. Also habe ich versucht, die Szenerie von außen einzufangen.
