HAAPSALU in Estonia: This city feels so special
Haapsalu in Estonia is, for me, one of the most beautiful places along the Baltic Sea. This small coastal town may not be spectacular in the traditional sense, but that is exactly what makes it so special: a place to breathe, slow down, and simply enjoy.
After my last video from Gdańsk, I’m taking you to a city that has something completely different to offer.
Instead of major sightseeing highlights, it’s all about the atmosphere. Haapsalu stands out with its peaceful location by the Baltic Sea, plenty of nature, wide open views, and a calm, relaxing mood. That’s what makes this place so special to me.
I truly hope you’ll embrace this change of pace with me.
The town is defined by its characteristic Estonian wooden houses – colorful villas and buildings that give Haapsalu its unique charm and that I personally find absolutely beautiful.
One of the highlights is the historic Bishop’s Castle of Haapsalu – a 13th-century castle ruin that once served as a bishop’s residence and is now the town’s landmark.
As always, I tried not just to capture images, but to make the atmosphere tangible – through various camera movements, drone shots, and carefully recorded ambient sounds combined with fitting music.

Stay until after the credits for a special extra: the former Haapsalu railway station – a fascinating place with a lost-place feeling, no longer connected to Estonia’s rail network.

Haapsalu in Estland gehört für mich zu den schönsten Orten an der Ostsee. Die kleine Küstenstadt ist vielleicht nicht spektakulär im klassischen Sinne, aber genau das macht sie so besonders: ein Ort zum Durchatmen, zum Entschleunigen und zum einfachen Genießen.
Nach meinem letzten Video aus Danzig nehme ich Dich heute mit in eine Stadt, die etwas ganz anderes zu bieten hat.
Statt großer Sehenswürdigkeiten steht hier vor allem die Atmosphäre im Mittelpunkt. Haapsalu überzeugt durch seine ruhige Lage am Baltischen Meer, viel Natur, weite Ausblicke und eine angenehm entspannte Stimmung. Das ist es, was die Stadt für mich so besonders macht.
Ich hoffe sehr, dass Du diese Abwechslung mit mir gehst und Dich darauf einlassen kannst.
Das Stadtbild wird geprägt von den typischen estnischen Holzhäusern – farbenfrohe Gebäude und Villen aus Holz, die der Stadt ihren ganz eigenen Charakter verleihen und die ich persönlich unglaublich schön finde.
Ein kleines Highlight ist außerdem die historische Bischofsburg von Haapsalu – eine Burgruine aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, die einst als Bischofsburg diente und heute das Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist.
Wie immer habe ich versucht, nicht nur Bilder einzufangen, sondern die Stimmung der Stadt spürbar zu machen – mit verschiedenen Kamerabewegungen, Drohnenaufnahmen und bewusst aufgenommenen Geräuschen, die zusammen mit der Musik die Atmosphäre tragen.

Bleib gerne bis nach dem Abspann dran. Dort zeige ich Dir noch den ehemaligen Bahnhof von Haapsalu – ein besonderer Ort mit fast schon Lost-Place-Charakter, da er heute nicht mehr an das estnische Schienennetz angeschlossen ist.
